Another one bites the dust

Slowly but surely my place is getting finished. The latest is my bedroom, it’s only 14′ 4″ by 8′ 10″, smaller than some of your bathrooms, so you might be surprised that it took so long to finish but, as always, it’s the details that take the time.

Here it is before I moved in.

Before I show you the after pictures, I have a quiz for you. What’s missing? There are, at least, two things that you might expect to find but aren’t there.

Two things that haven’t changed are the door and the pull cord. The door’s a fire door and should close automatically but I disabled that. So, I have slightly increased my chances of being burned alive.

The first things changed were the flooring and painting. Surprisingly, the floor was the easier part. It took 4 coats of paint to cover the walls. I don’t think it had been painted for 10-15 years. I had the old storage heaters removed and replaced and got agreement from the Management Company that I could replace the windows. They were single glazed wood windows and I replaced them with uPVC double glazed ones.

So, have you spotted what’s missing?

  1. Television. While I do have my PC setup in the bedroom. No TV.
  2. Wardrobe (Closet). I don’t have that much to hang up so my coats and suit are in one of the hall cupboards.
  3. Headboard. That’s the bonus answer, I know not everyone has one.

Did you get the answers right?

  1. Hi Chris, Your place looks fabulous.  I love the colors, the whites, the “less is MORE”!  OMG…beautiful!  I am continuing to fight the clutter/excess at my apartment but it seems to accumulate almost faster than I can get rid of it.  Have no plans this weekend so will work on it diligently…I hope! 🙂 Need to replace an old bookshelf.  I ended up buying the 2 dark brown shelves to replace the big boxy IKEA bookcase.  I have one more old IKEA case that is vertical with adjustable shelves.  The tabs that hold the shelves are breaking and are pulling out in some areas.  A few shelves are on the verge of collapsing.  UGH… I hate to look, and I don’t have money to spend, but the whole 75″ tall case will collapse on me if I don’t find something new.

Have you ever been to the Bookcases shop at 99 Sanchez in SF? I think it’s at 14th or 15th.  That’s all they do.  They quoted me $350 to make me a case in the dimensions I now have, with solid non-adjustable shelves (more sturdy for art books).  Online, adjustable shelf cases start at $150 and I’d have to have it shipped and “build it”.  They can go up in price to 300, 400, $500.  This may be the best thing to do. I’ve looked online for used, and at the consignment store where I got the couch, but cannot find a bookcase. Nothing else is new.  My boss now says the “temp” she hired was the WRONG hire.  She’s been here a month. She said yesterday she did not want to be the “judge/juror” about whether the temp gets hired.  I said back to her “she’s a temp….we ARE the judge/jury”.  She looked at me a bit surprised and said, OMG you’re right!  For someone as WISE and WITTY as my boss, she is being an idiot when it comes to hiring temps.  This current one and the last one were hired because she thought they were funny and quirky.  Unbeliveable!  That leaves me being the ONLY reliable assistant…and overworked!  I sent out 3 resumes this week and will chant for a new situation where I’m happy and stress-free thru the weeekend. How are you and your cat doing?

    I miss you!!!

Have a happy weekend!XO,Megan From: “Retiring from Work, not from LIFE” To: megan2gb@yahoo.com Sent: Saturday, October 17, 2015 8:07 AM Subject: [New post] Another one bites the dust #yiv0672586154 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv0672586154 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv0672586154 a.yiv0672586154primaryactionlink:link, #yiv0672586154 a.yiv0672586154primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv0672586154 a.yiv0672586154primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv0672586154 a.yiv0672586154primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv0672586154 WordPress.com | Christopher Tilley posted: “Slowly but surely my place is getting finished.
