I’ve been living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 18 years. Most recently working for Genentech. I’ve really enjoyed working for Genentech both because of it’s mission in helping people with life threatening and chronic diseases but also because of the people I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
Working at a good company with great people and living in one of the best places in the world still wasn’t enough. I guess it’s part of the human condition never to be satisfied.
For the past couple of years I’ve been thinking / wishing / dreaming / chanting about retiring at 60. But, didn’t think it was possible. At the end of last year, I checked into one of the two company pensions I had from a former employer and discovered that it paid out at 60, I thought it paid out at 65. This made retiring at 60 just about possible.
Decision made, all I needed to do was figure out the what, why, when, how and who.
